Probate of John H Broadbent 1888


In the name of God Amen I John H Broadbent of Chicago in the County of Cook and State of Illinois being of sound mind and memory and considering the uncertainty of this frail and transitory life do therefore make ordain publish and declare this to be my last will and testament

First I order and direct that my execut [sic] hereinafter named pay all my just debts and funeral expenses as soon after my decease as conveniently may be

Second After the payment of such funeral expenses and debts I give devise and bequeath to my wife Sarah E Broadbent all my house hold furniture and all personal property and real estate house and lot known as No 108 Wade Street lot 46 in Block 15 Elstons Addition to Chicago

and after the death of my wife Sarah E. Broadbent the property must be divided among my sons and one daughter James H & Benjamin F Broadbent Richard S and Charles Broadbent my daughter Anna and Vincent Broadbent

I also give them the rite [sic] to sell or improve just as thay [sic] may agree at any time

Lastly I make constitute and appoint Richard S Broadbent without bond to be Execut [sic] of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made

In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal the 28 day of March in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and eight [sic] seven

This instrument was on the day of the date thereof signed published and declared by the said testator John H Broadbent to be his last will and testament in the presence of us who at his request have subscribed our name thereto as witnesses in his presence and in the presence of each other

Proved and admitted to record in open Court March 8th. 1888 J C Kinickerbocker Probate Judge

NB - there are also Executor's Bond, Executor's Oath and Letters Testamentary.

These are a printed form completed on 8 March 1888 by Richard S Broadbent.

The bond was for $500.

Richard's address is given as 103 Wade Street.

John H Broadbent is said to have died on or about 31st August 1887.
